When we look back on Katie and Will’s wedding in Mykonos, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t the scenery or the decor. It’s the feeling of the weekend. It was so damn joyful. Everyone there was just radiating joy, so happy to be celebrating these two people.

As wedding filmmakers, we’re often asked what makes a “spectacular” wedding. People expect us to talk about the venue, the florals, or the entertainment, but the truth is, it’s always about the people. Katie and Will are the kind of people who are all heart and no egos. They weren’t interested in putting on a show; they were interested in making memories with the people closest to them.

Katie and Will planned three days of events at Soho Roc House, which gave the whole weekend a relaxed, intentional pace. In our experience, multi-day weddings in places like Mykonos allow the “wedding jitters” to evaporate early so that by the time the ceremony comes around, everyone is just ready to have the best time.

The White and Blue Welcome Party

The weekend kicked off with welcome drinks at Soho Roc House. They went with a classic white and blue theme (the colours of Mykonos) which looked incredible against the rugged landscape of the island.

This first night is always a great opportunity for us as videographers. It’s when we start to blend in. We aren’t just “the suppliers” anymore; we’re part of the occasion. It allows us to capture the genuine hugs and the “I haven’t seen you in years” moments that usually happen before the wedding even starts.

The Wedding Day

A Ceremony on the Chapel Steps

Katie’s entrance was one of those moments that truly takes your breath away. She wore a bespoke Emma Beaumont Atelier dress that was just stunning, but the real magic was watching Will. He’s a man with a lot of composed charm, but seeing Katie walk toward him broke that for a brief moment. You could see the deep breaths he was taking to keep it together. Being able to capture that shift in emotion, that split second where the magnitude of the moment hits, is why we love what we do.

Authentic Portraits Without the Forced Posing

After the ceremony, we headed off for a couple shoot while the guests had drinks under the canopy. We always tell our couples that this is the perfect time to just step away from the crowd. It’s probably the only twenty minutes of the whole day where you’ll be relatively alone together.

Our Approach to Couple Filmmaking

We were spoilt for choice for locations at Soho Roc House, but we didn’t want to waste time doing anything that felt stiff. Our principles are always the same:

• Authentic interactions: We want to see you laughing and talking, not holding a pose.
• Prompting over posing: We might give you a suggestion of where to walk or how to move, but the connection between you is what we’re actually filming.
• A discreet style: We want you to feel like you’re just having a moment together, rather than being “on a film set.”

The warmth and connection between Katie and Will was so natural that it radiates through every frame of the footage. When you aren’t being told to “look here and smile,” your actual personality has room to breathe.

Energy Through the Roof: The Evening Celebrations

If the morning was about emotion and ceremony, the evening was about pure energy. The speeches were delivered superbly, the meal was exquisite, and then the party just took off.

Fireworks and Hans Zimmer

One of the most unforgettable parts of the night was the fireworks. They’d arranged for them to be launched from out at sea, timed perfectly to a soundtrack of Bastille and Hans Zimmer. It was a massive, cinematic moment that felt like it belonged in a movie, but because it was shared with such a grounded group of people, it didn’t feel over-the-top. It just felt right.

The Midnight Pool Jump

The energy climaxed in the best way possible. Will led the charge, diving straight into the pool to end the night, though he did have the foresight to take off his Jack Davison suit and his Dad’s Patek Philippe watch first. Plenty of the guests followed him in. It was the perfect ending to a day that was all about letting go and having fun.

A Sunset Boat Cruise and a Core Memory

The day after the wedding, we all went on a sunset boat cruise around the island. Not only were we there on the boat to capture the final chapter of the story, but we also had our daughter, Felicity, with us on the boat, and were able to make core memories as a family. The way this incredible couple made us all feel welcome

Watching the Teaser Film Back

We had edited a teaser film of the wedding the day before, and we got to show it to Katie and Will while we were out on the water. Watching their reaction to their own wedding film in person, on a boat in the middle of the Mediterranean, is a core memory for us. It’s those moments of connection that make us feel less like videographers and more like guests with cameras.

When the boat stopped for a swim, everyone jumped in the sea, ourselves included. Even Felicity went for a rather chilly swim! As we sailed back to Soho Roc House with the music playing and everyone singing, we felt a massive sense of belonging. This couple and their families made us feel so welcome that capturing their day felt like a gift.

Working with Friends: The Creative Team

A weekend like this is always better when you’re working with people you know and trust. We had the pleasure of working alongside some of our closest friends:

Final Thoughts: People Over Production

This wedding was visually spectacular, but that’s not why it will stay with us. We’ll remember it for the people we met, the lack of egos, and the memories we made as a family alongside our couple.
